Stone Angel Chapter 10 Questions

1.) "The next room will be the smallest of them all " - What room is Hagar referring to?
In the next room she is moved to, she will feel even more unwanted and mentally claustrophobic.
2.) Give two specific references made to birds in the closing chapters.
a.) a bird in the house means a death in the house. (dead bird in the cannery)
b.) albatross- a big loon, story that in the poem there is a story when he shot the loon, so after he did the ship had bad luck. Albatross' become guilt.

3.) Who is the girl placed in Hagar's room?
The girls name is Sandra Wong. Sandra is placed in Hagar's room because she is getting her appendix out soon.

4.) What "feat" did Hagar perform for this girl?
Hagar got out of bed and got her a bed pan, even though she was afraid she would fall.

5.) What is the lie that Hagar tells Marvin?
Hagar tells him he was not crabby, and he took care of her well. She also said he was a better son than John.

6.) Who became the mayor of Manawaka?
Telford Simmons

"And then" signifies Hagar's death.

9.) In approximately one page (double spaced), write your personal response to the novel. Examine the impact it had on you. Go beyond simply stating whether or not you liked the novel
The novel "The Stone Angel" had an impact on my immediate thoughts. Hagar never did anything to make her self happy. It seemed like she always did things, to make others unhappy. Such as marrying Bram to make her father upset and just to get away from him. That did not work out very well for Hagar, seeing as she left him without a thought afterwords.
